I got it – at least I think so

So on Tuesday night I went into my query letter again. I asked my husband to read it and we spent about a half hour going over it. (I was almost late for my soccer game, which we tied and I got hit in the face really bad). Anyway, in my previous drafts I had all of the key points; my husband just helped me refine it. When we finished I felt good about it. The true test, of course, was to leave it for a few days and see if I still felt good about it. I read it again last night and still liked it. I’m going to read it again on Saturday and if it still feels good then I think I might have a winner.

Now I need to refine each chapter one more time. I’ve enlisted my husband’s help once again. It’s nice to have another set of eyes look at it and he’s brutally honest. He has no qualms about telling me when something doesn’t make sense or that a sentence is awkward, which is what I need

On to more the normal part of life:
My daughter lost both of her front teeth this week, my last baby is finally gone. I found with my boys that when they got their adult teeth they looked so different, more grown up. I feel so sad. In five years I’ll have all teenagers and that’s just plain frightening. When did I get this old.

Have you had any other beta readers-friends, daughters of friends daughters-read it? It sounds like your husband has been really supportive. Mine, too, is also brutally honest. So while it can hurt, I guess it's for the best.

Your daughter lost her teeth? Does the tooth fairy visit at your house. My mom always told me that they built castles with our teeth. Ewe gross.

I really didn't mean to say daughters of friend daughters. I meant to say daughters of friends. Because daughters of friends daughters would make you old, and see you are not.

Now you have me totally confused. I have two nieces (19) and (16) who have read the book. Two sister in laws, one sister and two soccer buddies. Plus my mom and dad. They've all loved it but aren't exactly the types to tell me otherwise. I think I have a good story it's all the little stuff I need to tighten up.

Not too good at perpetuating the tooth fairy. I have a hard enough time with Santa. We do go through the ritual though of teeth under the bed and money. Although I've forgotten it a few times and had to put it in the bathroom.

Sorry, I was trying to salvage my typo. Hopefully my real writing isn't so confusing:) Anyway, that's great that you are so close to the finish line, Patti. I'm jealous.

That sounds great! You know on Absolute Write, they have a place where you can sign up for beta readers. It depends on how comfortable you are though with giving a couple chapters at a time to someone you've never met. It's something I may end up considering later on when I get to that point.

Anyway, I tagged you on my blog to fill out a meme. Don't feel obligated to fill it out though :)
