Last week I hit the big 4-0. Yes I'm in my fourth decade of life.
It doesn't really feel any different, except for when I have to write my age down on a medical form. But in light of my new status as a gal in her forties I've decided to do two things this year. Grow out my hair just to see how long I can get it (my husband is super excited about this - what's the deal with men and long hair anyway). Second, I want to get to my ideal weight - I know cliched goal.
The first one is easy, since I don't really have to do anything, but losing weight - that's always been hard for me, so I've decided to break it into little steps. I'm not going to go cold turkey on the chocolate or peanut butter. I'm starting slow.
This week I'm not eating after 8pm and slowly I'll build on that. Every Monday I'll tell you my goal. It will help keep me honest.
I think we can do this with writing, break things down into little steps. Try to make it a goal to do one thing and then build on it. So my writing goal this week is to research some more agents.

PS: I may be 40 but according to this "living right now test" my body age is really 21, so all is good.

Welcome to the club, Patti. I turned 40 in August. I'm also taking baby steps toward my personal goals. I'm cutting out bedtime snacks this week too. Sounds like 40-year-old minds think alike. :)
Well I just took the body test and I'm 41. Which is a lot better than 48. But not much. I guess I'll have to do something about this.
Happy Birthday!!
I'm afraid to take the test until I've recovered from the severe damage I did to my body over the holidays.
And yes, cutting goal down into chewable bites is the smartest way to go about any challenge. I just wish I could remind myself that when I continually run headfirst to take on the world.
*jealous* My body age is probably 89. But I like your idea of breaking up goals into small bits. I should try that :)
Small bits is good. I joined Curves again last night and my first work-out felt wonderful. The treadmill just wasn't cutting it for me!
Have fun growing out your hair and best of luck in the losing weight!
Good luck with your goals. You can totally do those. :) And hello 21 year old. That's awesome.
Congratulations! And good luck with the goals ^.^
Oh my gosh Patti! I turned 40 last week too! Happy b-day! And here's to goals (because I'm trying to get to my ideal weight too). =)
Happy birthday! I hope you had a great time celebrating:)
I love the idea of breaking things into small goals. That makes it not so overwhelming.
Happy Birthday!!! I've heard the forties is a good decade for women. :-)
I'll be 43 in March, and I can tell you for certain that my body age is NOT 21. LOL. Maybe I'll follow you on your baby steps. I'll tell my husband I'm on the Patti diet. :-)
Haha, men and long hair. I know what you mean! Most of them, anyway.
Good luck with reaching your idea weight!--sounds like you're approaching it rationally. Not eating after 8 pm will really help, I bet.
Ooh, hope you had a lovely 40th birthday.
My husband is the same about hair - can't work out why, I look SOOOO much better with short hair. Men!!! :)

Small bits! Great advice. I took the test and dropped 13 years, not at good as 19, but I’ll take it.
Thanks for the reminder: I need to start researching agents. Groan.
LOL. I'm older than you. I was shocked when I was told I needed a baseline mamo. My 17 yo self (the one I refer to when writing YA) forgot I'm not actually 17.
I have to try out that quiz.
Happy Birthday Patti! I want to have a body like a 21 year old when I'm 40:) Right now if I could afford to lift a few areas I would be happy:)
Hope you had a very happy 40th. Great idea to post your weight loss plans on your blog. The accountability thing is the best dieting resource ever.
Oh I love your About Me photo. Your body age is probably way younger than mine. I never work out. Ever. Maybe that should be my goal. To be you. I mean, to work out.
Congrats on this great milestone. Hope you reach all your goals. :-)
And may you look awesome with long hair.
Shoot. I just polished off a handful of peanut M&Ms, and no matter what time zone I count myself in, it's after nine.
According to my Wii Fit age, I'm something like 87. Makes 41 look pretty good. :)
I think you look awesome. But I can't wait to see the December picture of your hair. :)
happy birthday!
Welcome to the 40's! And hope the agent searching went well for you. Small steps, and check marks after completing them help keep me on track. And got to celebrate your successes!
I'm not quite there but I will be in the next year! I think the 40s offer a lot of potential, just like the dawning of any new decade! Hope you reach your goals! Small steps always work.
Patti, I'm 15 years down the road.
OR !%.
Think it looks better capped!
Blessings for a great post-birthday
and a great New Year.
