Gone Gone Gone - I've been gone so long

Love that Chilliwack song. Although if you're not Canadian you might not know what I'm talking about.

Hey there fellow bloggers, it's been a long time. I've been away living in a Tiebetan hut with no access to the internet for four months.

I've learned a lot in that time. The locals here are crazy friendly.  Their momos are to die for and although tasty, the yak is a bit dry.

Actually, I've had no such adventure and have been sitting at home cooking, cleaning, working, dealing with kids, but that's not the reason I stopped blogging.

I wasn't writing. I wasn't reading. My whole literary life had stalled. I felt like I had nothing to say. So I took the break and decided to find my authentic self. (More on that in a different post.) It's an ongoing process, but I do feel like I made some progress.

First, I hate high heels. I've tried to like them, but they hurt my ankles every time I put them on. I can deal once in a while with a kitten heel or a wedge, but I will never be the girl who wears the three inch heels with the leopard print. I'm a flats girl and I've accepted that. (There are a few other things I've accepted but more on that later.)

Also I took the last four months and edited my first book one more time after reading a great editing book. (I'll save that for another post as well - can't give away everything at once). I am also close to putting the finishing touches on my second book and have been reading a great book to help me prepare for my third.

Starting this month I'm going to be working my actual paying job four days a week, so I'm only going to blog once a week - Mondays, because I'm also trying to learn that I can only do what I can do.

So that's part of what I did this summer, I'm sure I'll share more later. What did you do this summer.

What I did this summer: got a new job (yay! One I actually like!); took my daughter to swim lessons; celebrated my b'day and hubby's college graduation; read, worked on my nonfiction book and my novel; stayed out of the sun as much as possible!

Good to see you back to blogging!

Glad to have you back!!

My summer--two of my kids moved to grad school, my computer was dead for six weeks, my mom had surgery, etc. I've never been so glad that summer is over.

You're back :) Sometimes a rest is exactly what a person needs in order to come back stronger and more committed!!

Summer was busy as I prepared for my big 50K adventure (in honor of turning 50 this year).

Looking forward to your future posts - the ones you hinted at ;)

Welcome back! Breaks are so good for you. And you know the nice part, we're still here.

I'm glad you got to catch up on your 'real' life. Sometimes it's just the thing we have to do.

You don't want to know about what I did this summer. It's on the blog, but it's not pretty.

I'll be looking forward to your Monday posts. Yay!

Welcome back! It sounds like you did get stuff done even though you said you weren't writing.

Welcome back from another "Flats Gal".

I've missed you! And I totally understand the literary lag! I've been out of reading and writing (and blogging) all summer, also!

I am glad you've discovered things about yourself, and spent time with family, and now feel like you are ready to tackle stuff again at a pace you can feel good about.

I've started tutoring full time and I'm learning my limits as well. Stress isn't good. We can be each other's reminders of that. :)

Glad you were able to take time for yourself to figure stuff out! That's important! :)

i think all of us can identify with this post. I know I have needed to take a break and figure things out, figure my direction and evaluate if what I was doing was working. :) Perspective is necessary by stepping away sometimes.

Glad you got some good reading in and some revision in too. :)

Pleased to see you back, it sounds as if you have had a fairly eventful summer break which I'm looking forward to hearing more of.

I'm so with you. I haven't blogged for ages! Glad you figured out a few things. I'm not a heels girl either. :)

I spent your summer months mainly writing and rewriting.

Welcome back!

Breaks are wonderful. I've taken a few myself over the past few years, and they always make me eager to get back to the writing world. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who prefers flats. Heels hurt my feet too much.

I MISSED YOU PAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am on a permanent break. I blog when the mood hits. I read a great editing book too. Oh man. It showed me so much, pal. It's called Thanks, But This Isn't For Us.

Glad you're back. Mwah!
