Character Arc

Like I mentioned in my last post, I've been downloading home movies, so I'm catching glimpses of myself from 10 years ago and its been an interesting feeling.

I know its hard from watching yourself, but I don't think I've really changed that much (plus or minus a few pounds). So I started thinking, what has been my character arc for the last ten years.

Ten years ago...
1. I just had a baby
2. Trying to lose weight
3. Stay at home mom
4. Started writing a book (has it really been that long - ugh)

Now...
1. No babies in sight
2. Still trying to lose weight from 10 year old baby
3. Work a part time job
4. Still writing books

Not that different.

Emotionally I feel the same, at times insecure, at times confident, but always seem to be trying to figure out what to do with my life.

All I can say is that I better not base any of my characters on my life, because that would be a pretty boring book.

And that is why I write fiction.

What would your character arc be?

Oh man, a little scary to think about b/c I feel like I fluctuate so much from day to day.

Running like crazy.
Restless with projects.
Still in love with writing.

Mine would be good cop gone bad.

Okay, not really. This is a really good question.

In the span of 10 (maybe 12 years) I've gone from living in an apartment alone, eating in front of the t.v. each night, to married, two kids, eating at the big boy table. I'm still at the same job, though, which is either awesome or the exact opposite of that.

Something fun to think about - 10 years makes for a lot of change but somethings will always be the same. ;)

I love my time with my kids, but I look forward to the time they are more independent. I will cry with joy when they can all get into the car on their own and buckle themselves up. Ha!

I think my character arc would be less drastic than some too. I'm sure others would find it somewhat boring.

My character arc is probably the same as it was ten years ago, too. Is that sad or what? Now compared to twenty years ago, it's a different situation.

My character arc over ten years? Death, divorce, suicide, redundancy, starting a book, finishing it, publishing it, writing a second, publishing it, writing a third, acting on stage, writing a play and turning 50 this year and watching three kids grow up well because of their wonderful (and modest) father.

Bit too hectic really.
