Finding a dress

I have a Christmas Party this weekend where I have to wear a fancy dress. For those who don't know me, I'm a pretty casual dresser. My favorite clothing store is Sports Chek (I think you have those down south).

I bought a dress a few weeks ago, but I'm not completely happy with it, so today I went looking for another one. I probably tried on thirty dresses. Some were awful even though they looked good on a hanger, some were okay, but would a body shaping slip to make it look alright. Then I found the dress. The one I had to have. I thought it was on sale only to find out that out of the 100+ dresses this store had, it was the only one not on sale. Totally sucks. So instead I settled for another dress, or I'll go back and wear the one I originally bought.

I suspect that finding a dress for a Christmas party would be a lot like an agent trying to find a manuscript that they like. Some look good at first, but once they start reading them - not so much. Others are alright, but they would have to do a lot of work to make it fit. Then they find the book that fits in all the right places only to have it go to another agent.

All I can say is I'm glad I only go dress shopping once a year.

This is a good analogy. Have fun at your party!

What a great analogy!

I hate shopping too. The truth is that my husband shops for me. He's a gifted painter and can actually look at a dress on the rack, know if it will fit, how it will hang on me, and if the color will work. (Yep, he's totally a keeper.:) I'm so, so spoiled.

SUCH a bummer! I hate it when I have to try on a million different things before I find something I like. To have it NOT be on sale when I thought it was would totally suck. :)

I love shopping for Christmas dresses! Unfortunately, the only place I wear it is at our company Christmas party, and we didn't have it last year and won't again this year. So! I guess I get to save money, but I really enjoy getting all dressed up at least once a year. Hope you have fun!

Agggghhhhh dress shopping, how I hate it. Have a great party, I'm sure you'll look great no matter what you wear.

Killer analogy, Patti. I have to find a dress for April. One of our boys is getting married. Yikes! I'm like you so I'll be trying on hundreds of dresses and I'll never find the right one. *boohoo*

Happy party! (((hugs)))

Dress shopping - not my cup of tea either. I hope the party goes well.

I hate dress shopping, too! It's awful. I don't think I was meant to wear dresses. Have fun at your party!

Ugh! I am on my way out to do this very thing today for a party tomorrow night. I hate clothes shopping. It was much more fun when I was four sizes smaller!

Great analogy, though. Maybe you ought to write a coffee table book with all your great analogies. :)

Good comparison...as a querying writer, it's good to remember that yours might be a perfectly fine dress just not the right one for that agent.

I hate dresses and shoes. Probably only one of a few females to admit that. I also don't wear jewelry or makeup. Lol

Have a great week Patti.

I hate shopping for shoes and dresses. And like you, Patti, I might find one I love, and it'll be the one that isn't for sale. *rolls eyes*

Great analogy. :D

Ha! Dress shopping is the WORST. Hate it. That and pants shopping. :P And I'm a casual dresser as well. ;)

I am not a fancy dress wearer, either. Shopping for them is the WORST! I love your analogy. So true.

I hate trying on clothes. It's the worst. And as always, great analogy. :) Hope you have (had?) fun at your party.
