Not giving up

Tonight I went to a youth fireside with my boys and I think I got more out of it then they did. It was about deciding what you want to be and how you're going to get there. Funny how I'm almost 41 and I'm still trying to figure this out.

Speakers asked the youth to set goals both long term and short term. They also suggested that they identify and get rid of the time wasters in our life – we all know what they are.

One lady suggested that there are two reasons we don't reach our goals. We are too lazy or we are too cool. Well I'm definitely not cool, so for me it's all about not being lazy.

The last speaker suggested that quitting would feel far worse than all the hard work it would take to reach your goal. Yes, it may take some blood, sweat, tears, and more chocolate than we care to admit, but in the end when we feel that sense of accomplishment, it will all be worth it.

So my message this week: Never Give Up.

I've always had short term and long term goals. Only now are my long term goals (from way back when) coming to fruition. Not the way I exepected them, but I worked hard so I get to say I accomplished something. Right.

Short term goal for me today, get the laundry finished.

Even when you've recieved four rejections on full manuscripts in the space of two weeks.... okay, I guess I needed to hear this too. :)

Best post ever. Love it. I totally agree, and yes, I'm 40 and still figuring it all out. ;)

That's a good message. :)

I think I almost always get more out of the youth talks than my kids. I guess life lessons are applicable at any age.

You have no idea how much I needed this! Following the AMAZING suggestions I received from the editor at Bancroft Press will require a major re-write of my book. I've been putting off tackling them. Thanks for the kick in the butt! :-)

Lazy. But not too cool. Though I am too cool for some things. Like when they wanted me to participate in Dancing with the Stars. Way too cool for that.

This is a wonderful message. Being 20 years older than you I have the zen of laziness down!

I always need the lesson of goals taught to me over and over again. I have alot of incompletes in my life right now weighing me down. I think over-commitment can also be a reason not to meet our goals--kind of the opposite of laziness!

Great picture!

Funny how we often get more out of these things than the young - who was it said Youth was wasted on the young? George Bernard Shaw, wasn't it?
