We're all in this together

Tonight I went to a Speaker Series event sponsored by the local SCBWI chapter. They had Janet Gurtler and Angela Ackerman talk about agents. I knew a lot about the agent search, but I still learned a lot, which goes to show, you can always learn more.

What was interesting is they started talking about sites that I visit, resources that I use, the process of getting an agent, what an agent does for you. It made me think that we really are all in this together. We all have similar goals and the same passion - writing. And it's great that we support each other so much.

Also, I met fellow blogger Stina there, which was great to meet someone in person. I'm always so jealous when I see pictures of writers meeting at conferences.

Overall it was a great night, even though I had to burrow $40 for gas from my boss in order to get there.

  8. I wonder how writers made it before the internet. What a lonely journey it must have been!

There is motivation, encouragement and accountability in groups, and no one knows the struggles and the ups and downs of writing like another writer!

  12. It was so great to meet you and I'm glad you got some good content out of the session. I really enjoyed Janet's breakdown of all the stuff agents have to negotiate for--there were a few things that could have been pitfalls had I not known about them, but now I do and can make sure my agent watches out for them when that happy day comes...you know, some day. :)

  15. I keep meaning to get involved with SCBWI. It sounds like this was a great meeting, and I agree - I always come away with something new no matter how many times I hear people speak on the same subjects.

  16. Adding onto Jennifer's comment, I think the last song is Grease is about being together too. Maybe a conference should start with that song. Be fun. I'm happy to hear you met fellow blogger Stina. Patti, are you from Calgary too???
