Friday Favorites

Okay, I'll admit, I watched bits and pieces of American Idol this season. Enough to know that I really liked Phillip. And I'm so glad he won. Mostly because I'm more of a guy and a guitar type of a person as opposed to a slow ballad type of person.

Was Phillip the best singer in the contest?

No

Was he the best entertainer?

Obviously most of America thought so and so did I.

It just goes to show that everyone's tastes are different. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that thought Jessica was robbed. But maybe you can be a little different, a little imperfect, and still succeed. There are lots of books out there that maybe aren't the best written but for some reason they have resonated with people.

I say just keep writing, learning your craft, and take advantage of the opportunities that might come up.

Have a good weekend.

I leave you with my favorite Phillip Phillips song.

Cool song! And sometimes it blows my mind how subjective this industry is.

Good reminder about how subjective the "arts" are.

(Another example: I just read the expert reviews on the finalists for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. For some of them, I had to scratch my head and wonder, did the experts even read the same book?)

So true. And just because Jessica didn't win first place here, doesn't mean she won't find her place in the industry.

I think you're right that you can be imperfect and still succeed. I'm holding out that hope, anyway. :)

Happy Friday!

I'm saying nothing given that England has just gone barking mad (excuse the pun) over a dancing dog. Yes, a dog and his 'dancing partner' have just won Britain's Got Talent, part of the prize being quarter of a million pound, that's an awful lot of dog chews.

Anyway, great post. Sadly though I'm not able to play the video.

Can't say I really follow any of these types of shows (and if I did, it would be the Aussie version of them). But you raise a valid point about success coming to the imperfect and different, not just in the area of music, or books, but in every aspect of life. Thanks for sharing this :)

I never thought I'd say this, but I didn't watch Idol this season. *gasps all around* It's kind of like my world has turned upside down. I don't know what happened to me. Maybe next season.

Have a good weekend to you too!

I'm not an 'Idol' watcher, but that's a good lesson to take from it. Myself, when I think about these performance reality shows, I can't help but think: "There's two born every minute, a sucker and a star. We're all really busy, so could you tell us which you are?"

I'm looking for some ninja writers to interview for my Ninja spotlight series. If you're interested, go to http://kelworthfiles.wordpress.com/2012/05/16/im-looking-for-a-few-good-ninjas/ to find out more!
