Friday Favorites

Last Saturday I drove seven hours to watch my son play two basketball games. I left at 7am and got back at 1am. That's one really long day, but I didn't really mind, because I downloaded a book off audible.com onto my iPod.

I can't even tell you how listening to a book made the trip so much more enjoyable. On the way home, I didn't even get tired.

The book was twelve hours and I finished it on my commute to work, my walks around my neighbourhood and in the bathtub (maybe that was too much information).

If you subscribe to Entertainment Weekly you can go to audible.com/ew and get one book for free. I downloaded "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" and I'm so glad I listened to this book instead of reading it. I might have tried to rush through all of the great detail and emotional scenes to get to the meat and that would have been a shame. Plus the lady who narrated the book did such a good job. I would like to find other books she's narrated.

So this week, my favourite thing is audible books. Now I just need to figure out how to burrow them from my library.

How about you? Do you listen to audible books?

I just started with audible, too, but haven't been able to get through a book.

I did read Daughter of Smoke and Bone, though. Great book.

Have a great weekend!

I don't listen to audio books - not that often. When I have long car rides - by myself I will though.

Wow, thats one long drive.

Not a fan of audio books. Though I'll sit for hours reading a book I find I simply cannot concentrate on listening to a story and always end up falling asleep - no doubt a throwback to being read a story until I fell asleep as a child.

okay- are you ready for this? I've never listened to an audio book before! My kids are little, so we are still doing the whole disney songs and stuff. hopefully one day...

Never have, but am entirely open to it. I find it hard to find twenty minutes let alone twenty seconds where my kids aren't asking me for something.

My husband uses audible.com and my visually impaired son uses Talking Books. I usually only listen to books while driving long distances.

Great resources!! :)

I wanted to try it, but never did and soon forgot about it. This is AWESOME, because you have reminded me about it. Thanks, pal! You're so awesome!!!!!! :-)

Yay audio! And Audible. I can download books from my library website...not as many or as new as Audible, but they are free.

Your library might also have Playaways...they're like an Mp3 player with just one book on them. You provide the AAA battery and earbuds:)

I've heard such good things about audio books, but I just can't do it. My mind always ends up wandering and I have to rewind to the part where i started thinking about what I was going to make for dinner.

I've never used Audible, but I love to listen to books on tape for long drives. And a couple of my kids have trouble falling asleep, so they listen to books on CD every night.

When I taught middle school in San Antonio, TX, I had something like a 30 minute commute. All the books I taught that year were on tape (oy, am I old!) and I listened to them in the car driving back and forth. I loved it!!

I haven't done much listening since then. I thought I might for school, but it turns out I can read much faster silently than they can out loud, so it's not as practical now. My kids love it, though. They get them from the library.

I'll need to put that book on my list. Sounds great!

I can't listen to audible books. My mind starts to wander. I need to follow the written word. :(

I had no idea you could download books into an iPod. Guess what I'll be doing during my walks to work from now on?

Wow, 7 hours?
You're an awesome mommy!
Anyway, no--I've never "heard" a book--since I tend to read faster than spoken words, I tend to get impatient, lol.
