A Common Theme

Last week when I was talking to my friend about all the ideas I had for books (yes she's very patient to listen to me), she made an interesting comment.

She said that it sounds like the common theme through out my books is being rescued in one way or another. I was taken a back at first, because all of them are quite different, but she was right. I did have that in common with all of the books I've written and want to write.

She admitted to me that her theme was all about being true to yourself no matter what.

How about you? Do you see a common theme in your writing?

I do see similarities. I really stick to a lot of action and see my main character put through a lot. It's about overcoming obstacles. That would be my common theme.

Every one of my characters is trapped, but not all of them escape.

Yes.

Teaser for when they come out. ;)

I'm thinking that most writers would find this true with their writing. I do explore family relationships in my stories, and certain family intricacies in everyday living.

Yes, finding love against all odds.

ME too!! I do see similarities! And my theme is: we're not the body--we're the soul. :)

Not theme, but I realized the other day that all my books have suicide in them (or the word mentioned in them). Hmm.

Betrayal is a common theme in my books. The characters are almost always betrayed in some way, by someone close to them, or by society itself. :)

I wonder why I choose this theme? *mulls*

YES! And this is the foundation on which you can build your "brand"!!

Interesting! Most of mine are about parent-child relationships. Usually not good ones... Wonder what that says about me!

I think most writers have a common theme throughout even if the stories vary wildly.
