Friday Favorites

There comes a point when you’re reading a book that you really like when you have to make a decision.

Do I read the book fast because I love it?

Or

Do I read the book slow because I love it?

I try to do the latter but invariably I end up reading the book as fast as I can.

This is the decision I had to make this week with my favorite thing.

On Wednesday while I was at Costco, I picked up The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Frankly, I knew I’d buy this book as soon as I heard the title. What a great title. It’s made me reconsider mine.

It had me hooked by page five. I loved the voice. I loved the pacing. I loved the story. It made me laugh. It made me cry. And I couldn't stop reading it

Here’s the blurb:

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal. But when a diagnosis plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazels’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

There are some books that entertain you, and there are some books that make you think. This one does both.

I don’t usually recommend books, because then people see what weird tastes I have, but I highly highly recommend this book.

It is my favorite thing this week.

What’s your favorite thing this week?

When I come across a book I love so much, I usually read it slow, and relish each page, each amazing passage, as long as I can. Happy Reading to you :)

Edy's frozen fruit bars. Does it have to be a book? I read fast. All that work the author does to make the prose beautiful is lost to me by the end of the book if the book is good.

I've heard this is so good. I'm going to have to check it out. I'm reading Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi right now. It's awesome. :)

I'd rather read a great read slow, but I ALWAYS end up reading it fast. You and I could be twins, yanno? I'm going to buy it. I'll let you know if I'm like you. Weird and all that. Though I already know I am. *wink*

My favorite thing this week? Christopher had a great check-up at Chapel Hill yesterday and I ate several Hershey bliss bars. (Mmmmm) Now I really gotta work out.

Happy weekend! (((hugs)))

I love John Green. I haven't read this one yet, but I need to. And I don't know what decision you're talking about: fast vs. slow. I ALWAYS read fast. I wish there came a point when I thought, should I slow down? But that point never comes. :)

I know what you mean about whether to read a book I love really fast to find out what happens or really slow to take in every last word. I usually do both, read fast and then reread the best parts. The Fault In Our Stars sounds like a good read.

I've heard great things about this one, so I love that you like it too! I will definitely have to get around to reading it!

Favorite thing this week: time alone to write. My electric blanket. And being back home. :)

I have a bad habit of reading it fast if I'm really hooked- thats how I know I love it. If it takes me forever to read it, I'm not entirely in love with it. But if i read too fast, I forget the little details I should be savoring. I haven't read any John Green books but I hear how wonderful he is all the time.

I know just what you mean, you don't want to put the book down and yet at the same time you don't want to read it as to do so would only hasten the end.

Wonderfully put Patti, I'm so glad to read your recommendation of this one.

I LOVED this book. I've always been a John Green fan, but this one is my favorite so far. I can't wait to see what he writes next.

I LOVE this book! It made me laugh, and cry, and, as you mentioned, THINK. I knew it would be sad, but I had to read it anyway- Hazel and Augustus are so clever and funny, despite their predicament. A must read for 2012.
