The Long Term Relationship

I have been in a long term relationship for about six or seven years now. It started off strong. We clicked right away and I thought he was perfect, but then I introduced him to a few friends. They noticed a few flaws – things they thought I should try to change.

Over the past few years I've made great progress. I've almost got him to where I want him, but I'm still not sure he's good enough.

There's still a few things he could be better at, but I'm not sure how to change him. He's quite stubborn.

So I'm giving him a few more months. If it's meant to be it will work out and if he's not doing better then it may be time to move on to something new. Although it will be hard to leave something I've worked so hard on, it might be for the best.

Here's hoping the relationship works.

PS: Just in case you didn't get my analogy - my long term relationship is with my book.

Those darn books can be stubborn sometimes.

That's funny. You really had me going for a second. Especially when you said, "I've almost got him the way I want him," And I was like, "Yeah, go Pattie, good for you."

I do think we have to put an ending point, or a time when it's best to query or move on. Sometimes the best way to learn is writing the next book!

Too cute! I think we all feel that way.

Glad to read that small print.

It's awful when friends don't agree with your tastes.

There's good news! Books can be changed, might be hard, but it can be done.

Men, on the other hand, they're just gonna be men no matter how hard we try.....

lol. I think.

Whew, I'm glad it's with a book too. Those stinkin' books.

I was in a relationship with a book like that once too. I dated him for like 3 years until I gave up on him. And then I wrote two more books. Later on, after two more years, I run into him! And he promised he'd change. And that's the WIP I finished this week!! :D

So glad to see you again!

I love it! I knew it was a novel. You tricky gal. Yes, those relationships are tough.

I've had some long-term relationships that have been off and on again for years! It seems to work for me. The first one was a learning process, but I plan to pull it out one of these days and revise it, using two POVs. So you might want to take a break. Love the analogy!

No book's perfect, right? :)

I thought you were talking about something other than a mate but I didn't know it was about your book.

Hope you get it to where you're happy. Until next time, eat well and have an oogie boogie week.

Sigh. I feel exactly the same.

Sadly, with guys I was always pretty quick about knowing if it was going to work out or not, but with writing... I'm a bit thick-headed.

I had to break off relationships with three of my novels. Heart-wrenching. I hope yours works!
