Books are the new Clothes

For those who don't this about me, I've been known to buy a lot of clothes. In September I made it a goal to cut back and cut back I have.

But instead I've replaced my clothes buying addiction with books. I've boughten eight books in the last month. In fact, last Thursday I went to the book store to buy a book about Character motivation and Save the Cat. Except they didn't have either book, so I walked through the YA section and started picking out all the books that I've seen on other people's blogs.

I ended up with five.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Speak by Laurie Anderson
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
Hold me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride (I picked this one up because of Lois Moss's review)
Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

I still have these books to read that I've boughten in the last two months:

Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I am Number Four by Pittacus Lorre (this is the book I bribed my son to read and he actual finished it)
An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

I probably still have ten other books that I've boughten in the past year but haven't read yet. I'm officially a book hoarder. The trouble is that everyday I read about another book I should read.

So here's my question. From my list what would be your top three and I'll start there. Or if there are any other books I need to get let me know. I still have $25 GC from my birthday that I keep forgetting about.

Speak is on my nightstand. I'm about halfway through and enjoying it. That's the only one the list I've read, though I've heard of all the others.

I haven't read all of them but i'd say start with Speak and If I Stay. Enjoy!

I've heard great things about Save the Cat and I have to admit The Book Thief is one of my favorites!

The only one I've heard of is The Book Thief, which I LOVED! All those titles are intriguing.

I loved the Book Thief, but be warned, it starts kind of slow and doesn't get interesting for at least a hundred pages.

I had to laugh when I read the title of this post. I don't read books the way I used to so I buy movies now and claim them for research. Anything Jane Austen works. And in the Regency period.

Hee hee! I'm totally picking up way too many books. I have Speak on my list too (just sitting there on my shelf waiting for me to read). =)

I've read 7 of the 11 books that you recently purchased and the other 4 are all on my to-read list. So you definately have good taste.

My top two would definately be "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian" and "The Book Thief" in that order. The rest are all great, but on a similar plane so they are hard to rank.

Happy reading.

I used to do the same thing with buying way ahead and having stacks of books waiting for me to read them. At one point, I made myself read what I had and now only let myself buy a few at a time. I still slip but I'm doing much better at it.

I've read practically everything in your list and would say it's kind of a function of what you're in the mood for.

If you're looking for my order of favorites I'd say The Book Thief (I personally didn't find it slow at the beginning--death as narrator and the stark poetic nature of the voice gripped me right off), Across the Universe and Hold me Closer, Necromancer.

If you're not in the mood for something set in WWII with all that implies, you don't want to read The Book Thief.

If you want to ask specifics about the different books email me.

I would start with IF I STAY or THE BOOK THIEF. :)

I'm like you. I bought 10 books in the last week. I can't stop myself. :)

The only one I've read on your list is Across the Universe, which was great. I've been wanting to read Speak and Twenty Boy Summer.

Save the Cat is wonderful. I read it a few weeks ago and it gave me some great ideas.

OH tough call I’d say “Hold me Closer, Necromancer”, “Across the Universe”,and for number three… “Beautiful Darkness”.

I read alot, but I haven't read any of those. I did start Crescendo and didn't finish it, although I finished the first in the series. So I guess that's my un-recommendation.

Top of my list would have to be The Book Thief - a brilliant book, its become one of my all time favourites.

Great list. I've read about half of those. I don't think you can go wrong. :-)

I think I would go "If I Stay," "Across the Universe," and then whichever other... I've turned into a book-buying maniac, too. But it's a good thing!!! :o) <3

I don't read a lot of YA, so Speak is the only one I've read. I'm sure you'll enjoy them all. :)

I'd read If I Stay first. Also, Across the Universe (although I had a hard time with that one because I have a really hard time getting into Sci-Fi).

Another great YA series is the Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa (The Iron King, The Iron Daughter and The Iron Queen. I've got the last one waiting for me at the library). Very action-packed and a wonderfully dark portrayal of the world of Faery. :)

There's one other book I'm dying to read (that's not a YA) and it's Michelle Moran's Madame Tussaud. It just came out last week and I'm anxiously waiting for it at the library.

I know! I'm currently reading two books, and I have a stack just waiting for me. Don't even get me started on the pile of magazines...

Good luck!
