2010 and 2011 in a little more than 150 words

2010 began with high hopes. I had my book with an agent and I let my imagination get the better of me. Unfortunately a week into the New Year, I received a rejection.

I didn’t let it deter me. I tried a couple of other agents, but was met with more rejection. Then a particular harsh and warranted critique made me second guess my book, so I did one more rewrite and have let it sit ever since.

Now I have officially given this New Year a theme. 2011 is the year of the Query.

This is the year I give it my all, try every option, every avenue and see what happens.

Anyone else with me, or do you have a different theme for this year: like the year of the first draft or the year of the revisions, which are my secondary themes.

PS: It’s good to be back, hope everyone else had a great Christmas break.

I will be querying as well this year and plan on finishing my second novel. Good luck and hope this year is all the year of the sell for you.

We're gonna do this. YEAH! You WILL find that agent. And I finally got the shopping finished and was up early Christmas morning wrapping. IN THE NICK OF TIME. Cuz, that's how I roll these days. Happy New Year. :)

I'm stewing and praying in the wait right now. It's the year of the wait. It's the lifetime of the wait.

I've been there. Where rejections or certain comments make me doubt my whole story. I'm going to try not to do that this year. But for me, this is the year of revisions - after I finish my first draft. :)

Yes, Year of the Query.
Year of the Wait.
Year of the AGENT!

This is the year of balance for me. Where I don't try to write until words come out of my ears, but still keep writing every day.

Good for you! I love all the positive blogs today.

ergh. I'm starting 2011 the same way you started 2010, so I have no idea what this year will be like... maybe I'll be with you, maybe I'll be at a different stage in the game.

Regardless, good luck to you! :o) <3

Good for you and best of luck! I'm just going to call this the year of possibilities. :-)

Sent out a whole bunch of queries this morning, so yeah, it is indeed the Year of Queries!

Yep, year of the query for me. My New Years Resolution is to query at least three projects this year. One is ready to go, one is pretty close, and the third needs a lot of work.

Good luck to you and all of us querying!

Happy New Year, Patti! One writer I know told me she sent out over 100 queries. Sounds like a lot but she finally landed an agent. It wasn't long before she had a book deal for her tween novel and a picture book.

Best of luck with your year of the Query!

I'll be giving it my all too! Here's to both of us being successful! :)

Considering I'm looking at querying two books this year (unless I get luck with book #1), I'm calling 2011 the Year of the Query, too. :D

Sounds like a good theme!

Good for you! Good luck!

I'll be querying this year, too, but I have a lot of work ahead before I get to that point.

Happy New Year, Patti!

Sorry to hear you got a nasty critique. Glad to hear you bounced back from it. Hope your 2011 is full of all kinds of blessings - including an agent!

Good luck with the querying! I'm sure you'll find success! :) A few people make it on the first few queries, but I think a lot of us have to try every avenue. It was funny - every one I sent out I'd think, "I really want THIS agent because she's so perfect for this book!" and then a week or month later I'd find another I'd think the same thing about.

Never give up! Never surrender! Hope this year of the query is actually very short--that you sign with someone soon!

I do have a writing resolution, too. And it's the same as yours, as all of ours. Write forever. Write until you've satisfied that story inside you. Write until it is in your hands. And then write another.
Right there with you, Girl. Never give in. Ever.
