Massaging

For me massages are a necessary evil. I don't get the swedish kind with the aromatherapy and citar music playing. I usually go for the sport massage. The masseur kneads and puts pressure on all the knots I have in my back and shoulders. Usually I want to cry or at least hold my breath. In short, it hurts. I'm usually sore the next day, but a few days later, I feel pretty good.

I've been working on my synopsis all week. Well not every minute of the day, but it sure feels like it. I've got all the main points written out, and the first half is mostly done, but the second half needs a lot of massaging. It's going to be rough, and it will probably hurt. I'm hoping not to hold my breath until I'm finished, or I might just pass out.

On the plus side, I figured out a different motivation for my main bad guy that I'm totally excited about, maybe writing a synopsis is a good idea.

The tail end of my synopsis was super hard for me to write. It wasn't that I didn't know the ending; it was that I couldn't find a way to summarize it in a few paragraphs. I say let it sit for a while and enjoy the aftermath of the massage. I wish I'd had one of those. :)

I would rather have had root canal fillings done without anaesthesia rather than write a synopsis of my first wip.
There is advice that says to make the synopsis one piece at a time after every session of writing, for the long synopsis. But who has time to do that? Besides it's the pithier, one-to-two-page short one - the one that needs flavour and voice - that is the trickiest.

Funny how so many writers use painful analogies in terms of their writing! LOL Definitely true though!

Your analogies are so good, Patti. Thanks for these thoughts!

Pretty dang funny analogy. Fitting too. Good luck working through it all!

Way to go on the synop! I think it's a great idea!

Awesome analogy, now I really want a massage. =)

Great analogy! And ouch on the massage.

I have a love/hate relationship with both the synopsis and the query letter. At least in my experience, they tend to bring out the great ideas and I'm like, "I have to revise AGAIN?" Ugh. Good luck!

Synopsis? Good idea? Are you feelin' okay? :)

At least you're doing better than I am. UGH

On the plus side, once I get an agent, I won't have to ever write another query. :)

Oh I like it when those new character motivations just come to me. I have a gift certificate for a massage that will expire in two months, and I know I need to use it. I mean, massages are expensive. I've been putting it off because they not only make me sore but SICK. I probably need to drink more water. You know, flush out all that lactic acid.

I think there are definite benefits to writing a synpsis before and after writing the novel! I do both!

I like the idea of massaging your manuscript.

Sigh. Now you have me wanting a massage.

I haven't written my synopsis for my current book yet. I know I'll need to, but I'm putting it off. Glad to know something good came out of the pain of writing yours!

Have a great weekend!

That's good that you have the writer's weak points, neck & shoulders, massaged.

Most writers don't enjoy writing a synopsis, but if it helps your ms. even more then it's very important.
