Implants

My husband is a broken man. He's had six surgeries since we've been married and the doctor's want him to have another one on his shoulder. This time instead of trying to fix the shoulder, they want to give him a new one from a donor (a dead one). The doctors say that can't completely fix what's wrong. They can make it somewhat better, but he really just needs a new one.

This is how I feel with writing sometimes. Some of my chapters just aren't working. I try to change a word, a sentence, a paragraph, but in the end I really just need to start fresh with all new words. Which is a lot easier than getting an implant.

Back to editing and writing a hook for my query. I have the whole letter written, except the hook, maybe I'll post it later this week to get some feedback.

Hope you had a Happy Halloween.

At least you don't need painkillers when revising a novel. Just tons of chocolate. :D

The hook is my least favorite part, too.

The shoulder thing sounds really bad. That's no fun at all. I'd much rather do revisions.

Patti, you are such a wonderful writer. I LOVE this analogy but feel your husband's pain.

I'm doing revisions right now and know what you are saying.

Miss my regular visits here! Miss your pop-ins at my place.

Until 11/15, will be stuck in THE CAVE except for breathers!!

Blessings,
P

I understand - learning when to start afresh is a hard still to learn because it's so hard to delete so many words. Hope it works out for your husband!

My thoughts go out to your husband. I love what Stina has to say though I'd like to add that as well as the painkillers I find chocolate a big help as well.

Praying for your hubby, Patti. I agree with Stina. GIVE ME CHOCOLATE!

I can't wait to read what you've got for your hook on your query. I think mine is done. Uh, er, maybe. YIKES!

I hope his surgery goes well. And good luck with your hook. It's always the hardest part, I think.

I hope your husband's shoulder situation improves. And good luck with the hook and the rewriting of chapters.

Ugh, queries are the *worst*! It's the most unnatural thing for a writer, to put on a sales hat.

Best of luck to you (and your husband).

Wow, your poor hubby. What started all the problems to begin with? I wish him luck. And yeah, replacing a chapter is a lot less painful and a lot easier. Plus, you can always go back to the old one if the new one isn't cutting it.

I'm re-working my query letter as we speak. It's fun, yet exhausting at the same time!

Great analogy. I've had the same experience writing. Let us know what the hubby decides.

Poor hubby! Hoping this works for him and he feels better :O)

Sure hope your husband gets better soon.

As long as you have the whole letter written, all you have is 1 more sentence. Also, take a look at the entire 1st paragraph & see if the hook isn't lurking around there!

Sorry about your husband's shoulder. Sounds painful.

Last year I'd rewritten and revised a book to death and finally just set it aside thinking I would never return to it.

But now I'm remembering the book fondly and plan on revising again.

Sometimes we just need space from a project!

This is a great way to apply life to writing. Sometimes things just don't work the way they're supposed to. Good luck with your query, and sorry about the husband. :)
