Being A Horse

First off, I hope everyone had a great holiday with family and friends. I had a fabulous time eating, skating, sledding, sliding down water slides, eating some more, and even became a new aunt. She almost had it on my birthday, only 41 minutes late. Anniversary and birthday have been great and looking forward to New Years.

On to the post:

In the past I have been known as a bit of a clothes horse. I love buying new clothes almost as much as I love chocolate, okay maybe even more. As a teenager I refused to go to the Saturday night dance unless I had something new to wear. This trend continued into married life, much to my husband's chagrin.

Now since I'm a whole year older, I've become a bit more mature. In fact, this year for my birthday, my mom bought me a belt and a wallet. Very practical items, things I needed.

Although my hunger for clothes has abated somewhat in the past few months, I've boughten way more books than I ever have before. Now I'm becoming a book horse. I have my own bookshelf where I've divided my books up by genre. The truth is I have a lot of books I haven't even read yet, but I like looking at them on my book shelf.

So for a New Year's resolution I'm determined to buy only the clothes I need, which won't be any and I won't buy anymore books until I read the ones I have.

Oh wait. I do have a gift certificate to the GAP that my husband got me for my birthday. And Kimberley Derting's book "The Body Finder", comes out in March. Also the book "The Secret Year" by Jennifer Hubbard looked good. Then there's the sequels to Wings (Spells), Shiver (Linger), the third book in the Hunger Game series. In June, Northanger Alibi by Jenni James comes out and then there's Paranormalcy by Kiersten White. Plus so many more.

Okay forget the New Year's resolution. It looks like 2010 will be a great year for shopping for clothes and books.

I agree! You are my kind of lady! Shopping and reading are my favorite things to do- other than writing fiction.

Here we come 2010- look out!

Ha! I definitely spend my money on books. I love them!!! Right now I'm happy because I had a gift card--as in the passive tense. But a lot of books are coming my way very soon!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year. You are a shopaholic? I'm tempted to go out and buy new clothes right now since nothing fits me except for maternity. However, as they would all be post-partum fat clothes and assuming (hoping) I would not fit in them for long, I figure it would be a waste of money. Good luck on your clothes-reesolution. I agree, it may be too hard to keep your new-books resolution.

Shop away, Patti. You deserve it!

I can't say I'm with you on the clothes shopping (my idea of torture), but I am 100% with you on the book shopping! Now that's my kind of fun!

We're rapidly running out of walls to put up more bookcases, even after my hubby moved twenty boxes to his office on campus.

And is there a term for us book-buying fiends equivalent to "clothes horse"? Book magpie?

Laura: I sure have my fingers crossed for 2010.

Tamika: Shopping is definitely a way I get rid of stress, unfortunately it adds stress, so I'm a deal finder.

Jessie: I'm sure you'll be back in those skinny jeans before too long.

Susan: I do deserve it, but so does everyone else.

Katie: Funny how either you love shopping or it's pure torture.

Laurel: Book magpie. I like that.

Ha! I totally could have written this post! I'm seriously going to try on the clothes thing though....books? No promises.

Aww, thanks for mentioning The Body Finder! :)

And I hate resolutions that mean I *can't* have things. Especially books and clothes. And chocolate.

I'm definitely a book horse. Most of my bookshelves are bursting with books. Some are two deep with books on top of them. There are boxes of books still unpacked from the last move and who knows when I'll get to unpacking them. There's no place to put them anyway.

My new solution? My husband got me the Kindle for Christmas. Yippee! I've already read one book. (That's one nice thing about being sick--reading was one of the few things I could do.) and I won't have to find a place on the shelf for it. It has it's ups and downs, but I think it will work for me. Yea!

Books horse sounds so unattractive. And anyone who reads lots of books is BOUND to be attractive, right??

(Thanks for the mention, by the way!)

I could do without buying new clothes, too, but I'm not so sure about books. There's way too many good ones coming out in 2010:)

Have a wonderful New Year!

I'm also a book whore, oh wait, you said horse. Yes, I'm a book horse, that sounds nicer. :) Happy New Year. I'm glad you decided that giving up buying books would be ridiculous. That was like the time I pretended I was going to give up chocolate.

Book horse here too. What's could be better on a cold, blustery night than a book, a fire, and hot cocoa. Okay, there are a couple of things I can think of...

LOL! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Even though it's late! I hope you had a great day!

And er, who uh--doesn't love to buy books? Seriously!

And--YOU MENTIONED ME! Thank you!
